Though I’ve always loved to draw, paint and make things, it wasn’t until my family moved to Charlotte, NC that it occurred to me I might be an artist. The pivotal (or more likely a very slow turning) moment happened about two years after we’d relocated from NYC to Charlotte. I asked myself, “what does it mean to be an artist anyway?” I’ve been on a journey to discover the answer to my question ever since.
This interview took place some two years into my explorations of what it takes to be an artist.
“The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching you goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach.
It isn’t a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream…
It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no starts to reach for.
Not failure, but low aim is sin”
